Nine Steps to Melting Shea Butter at Home
Taken from the shea butter handbook
Authored by Dr. Samuel Hunter
SUPPLIES NEEDED
- Two empty pots capable of holding 1 to 5 quarts of hot water
- One Large wooden or plastic spoon
- Small amount of shea butter, 5 to 10 ounces
- One large plastic Zip Lock bag
MELTING PROCESS
Step One
Start by placing 5 to 10 ounces of Shea Butter in a large Zip Lock bag
Step Two
Now place the zip lock bag containing the butter in one of the two empty pots,
Step Three
Now sit the pot containing the zip lock bag with shea butter on the kitchen counter and wait for later use.
Step Four
You should go back to step three and check the zip lock bag to make sure it is closed tightly. A tightly closed zip lock bag prevents water from contaminating your purified, high quality shea butter.
Step Five
Now place 1 – 2 quarts of water in the second empty pot and then heat on the stove until the water boils.
Step Six
Once the water boils, carefully pour the hot water into the pot containing the zip lock bag with the shea butter. Keep the zip lock bag closed. Do Not put water direct into the bag .The bag may float atop of the hot water, or it may sink to the bottom. Sinking or floating is ok.
Step Seven
After a few minutes sitting in the hot water you should notice the shea butter beginning to melt inside the zip lock bag.
Step Eight
Some times the water will cool before the shea butter completely melts. In such a case, if the water cools before the shea butter is completely melted, just heat more water to boiling and replace the cooled water with new hot water.
Step Nine
Once the butter has completely melted, liberally apply the shea butter to all parts of the body after each s daily shower or bath. Apply shea butter in same manner as you would apply a skin cream or lotion.
After melting shea butter several times, you will no longer need these directions; however, you should put these directions up for save keeping and later references.
